About

At CSES, we don’t just accept difference – we celebrate it.

It is CSES' mission to create an environment that supports, inspires and respects all individuals, encouraging everyone to explore STEAM subjects. We do not discriminate based upon age, disability, gender identity or expression, medical conditions (including pregnancy and maternity), race, religion, sex, sexual orientation or any other protected characteristics.

If you require accommodations for any reason, you can let us know by one of the following methods:

  • For most of our events, you can fill in the "Access Needs / Requests" field when completing the online registration form.
  • To discuss your needs or if the form does not include this field, please get in touch at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

We will endeavour to make you as comfortable as possible.

A key strength of CSES is its network of partner and stakeholder organisations. We have over 100 years of working within STEM education and industry, which has given us a genuine reach across sectors. We are connected to local business, the education sector and the public throughout Essex. We also work closely with local government. This enables us to create links, facilitate effective collaboration and deliver on our mission.

Sponsors and Corporate Members

The majority of our funding comes from our Sponsors and Corporate Members, to whom we are hugely grateful. Contact the Treasurer to find out more about Corporate Membership.

Strategic Partners

We work with the following organisations towards our shared goal of improving education, employment and regional development, and to lead the conversation on the issues, sectors and technologies that drive innovation and industry in the region. This is achieved through mutual in-kind support, and targeted funding where necessary.

Collaboration Partners and Network

These organisations are part of the "CSES network", either as formal collaboration partners of CSES or as related organisations with similar aims whose work we support and promote.

We acknowledge our duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children or adults at risk and are committed to ensuring safeguarding practice which reflects statutory responsibilities, government guidance and complies with best practice.

Our safeguarding policy sets out how we will ensure that all individuals have:

  • a positive and enjoyable experience of STEM activities organised by CSES in a safe environment; and
  • protection from any abuse whilst participating in our activities.

The appendices to the policy define our associated procedures and practices.

Signing the safeguarding policy

As a CSES volunteer, you may be required to sign the safeguarding policy and/or register as a STEM Ambassador to complete an enhanced DBS check. You may also need to be an active ("paid-up") CSES member. We will advise on the requirements for any particular activity.

To register as a STEM Ambassador, start by creating an account with STEM Learning. You will then need to complete an identification document check for your DBS clearance; the CSES Designated Safeguarding Officer can assist with this and act as a countersignatory if required.

To sign the CSES safeguarding policy and confirm details of your DBS clearance, you can:

  • Complete your volunteer profile electronically via the CSES website (preferred).
  • Download, complete and return a copy of the form at Appendix 3 above.

To complete your volunteer profile electronically:

  1. Log in to your CSES membership account.
  2. Select Volunteer profile from the menu.
  3. Complete the form as appropriate (see screenshot below for guidance).

These are the policies and procedures that we are required to maintain by the Charity Commission, and cover various aspects of governance.

These policies are intended to provide additional detail to, and be read in conjunction with, the Constitution, which is the charity's governing document. As such, nothing in these policies and procedures may negate or contradict it, or bring the organisation's status as a registered charity into question. However, unlike the Constitution, these policies and procedures may be amended from time to time as required by the Council of trustees without formal approval at a General Meeting.
