The CSES holds a Presidential Dinner annually, giving members, guests and sponsors the opportunity to talk to one another in a convivial setting.
Venue, access and timings
The venue is once again the Channels Golf Club, off Essex Regiment Way. Please note that access is now via Pratt's Farm Lane, off the Chelmer Valley Park & Ride roundabout.
The facilities are excellent and we shall again be in the Essex Barn, which has plenty of space next to the bar for pre-dinner drinks.
We have kept to the start time of 7.00 for 7.30 pm dinner, which hopefully will make it easier for some members to attend; the date should avoid early holidays.
Speaker
This year's speaker will be Dr David Sims who, since gaining his PhD in Physical Chemistry from Manchester University in the early 60s, has spent a lifetime in all things associated with explosives and rocket propellant technology.
His career began in the Explosives Research and Development Establishment in Waltham Abbey, the successor to the Royal Gunpowder Mills, ultimately leading to his more recent activities as a consultant to such organisations as Dowty, RAE Farnborough, PSI in the USA and as an 'ambassador' for the Royal Gunpowder Mills.
He will talk to us tonight on the history and importance of the Mills in both science and engineering terms (with a liberal dose of fascinating 'explosive' anecdotes!) and the work they currently do as charity to make science, technology and engineering accessible to today's schoolchildren.
